Kumamoto ken is in the south-west part of Kyushu island and in ancient times it was the capital of the Hosokawa Clan. Kiyotsugu is a skilled Shinsakuto swordsmith, a member of the “All Japanese Swordsmiths’ Society.” He is famous for his well-made blades. In November 2007 he received the Kumamoto Kenmin Bunka Sho, the first prize in Kumamoto prefecture for swordsmith art. These Daisho are works of art and constitute a good example of the ability of contemporary swordsmiths.
